Cross Country Wrap-up
November 19, 2019
By: Ava Silliman & Sarah Tourville
This was a successful season for the middle school cross country team. The coaches were very supportive and the runners did exceptionally. We are excited for next year’s season as well as being thankful for finishing this season on a high note.
The coaches this year were Coach Snare, Coach Somerville, and Coach Martin. This year’s team manager was Ali Insley. The top three male runners were Andrew Hetzer, Max Harrington, and Aidan Younkin. The top three female runners were Claire Somerville, Abigail Fisher, and Jessica Wagner. Two of the top three female runners are 7th graders.
The team’s best meet, according to Coach Snare, was their last invitational on their home course. The average male time for this race was 13:56, and the average female time was 16:33. Both the male and female teams ended the season very well, and they kept working hard and improving through the entire season. Both the boys and girls teams ended with an overall score of eleven wins and five losses.
Mr. Snare, also an 8th grade teacher, was the head coach of this year’s cross country team. He does not only want to coach a sport, but he also wanted to teach life lessons. When he ran cross country, his coaches pushed him to be a better person and love to run. Shining through him at all times is teamwork and support for the people around him. Coach Snare is loved for everything he does for his athletes and students.
This fall marked the end of the 16th junior high cross country season. The cross country season was a relatively short season being only 2 months long. The season started in July with optional workouts. The season officially began on August 12th and ended on October 12th. July practices for next year’s season are starting the first week of July. More information about next year’s season will be announced over the morning announcements in mid-May along with an informational meeting in mid-May.
