The wrestling team just won the Donegal tournament for the first time ever this past week.

The team attended a team tournament where they competed against several other competitive schools to see who was the best on Saturday, December 30.

The wrestling team has come in second and third place in years past but this is the first time the team has come in first place.

Senior captain Joey Romjue is proud of the team’s success and believes that the win will encourage the team throughout the rest of the season and beyond.

“I think it’ll just help push the team a little harder they’ll look up and see that we have people winning tournaments and go, we can do it too, we can push harder,” said Romjue.

Romjue is the school’s only undefeated wrestler this season and is dreaming big for his senior year.

“…as an individual I’m looking for a state medal I want top three in the state, I think I can take first,” said Romjue.

The team is really pushing themselves this season and is only looking to do better in years to come.

Head coach Aaron Trimpey thinks the team has done very well this season and is looking forward to the future

“It comes down to the kids, the kids are just working hard. They’re stepping up and they’re doing everything we ask them to and that’s all we can ask. But I definitely see an increase in performance and how we’re doing but in the end it’s about having fun too,” said Trimpey.

The team had a match on Thursday, January 11, where they lost 39-40 in an intense match.
