School Spirit Blossoms
October 22, 2017
Flowers have been found hanging from cabinets, classroom shelves, and water fountains.
Student Council’s class competition in honor of the Garden of Lights homecoming theme has had students on the hunt for petals.
Between the four high school classes there has been an ongoing scavenger hunt to see which one can collect the most flowers, and student council president Michael Torbert explains the purpose of the competition.
“[The purpose is] to inspire some competitiveness between the classes, and just to give people a fun thing to do throughout the week,” said Torbert.
Student council advisor Kellin McCullough explains how the idea came about, and who contributed to it.
“Angelica Hunt is in charge of that committee, so her and her committee came up with it. I know Kaleb Fair and Caroline Kinna were also instrumental in helping that,” said McCullough.
According to Student Council, most of the flowers were found on the first day,so, all of the flowers were recollected and placed back out again during the week.
This week has all been a part of the student council preparation for homecoming. Collectively, they are trying to help in boosting school spirit.
Senior class representative Kaleb Fair is a part of the committee taking care of the flower competition.
When asked if the competition was successful, Fair said that he thinks so.
“Yes, definitely, especially because of the phenomenal participation that exceeded our greatest expectations. All of the flowers were found in one day, so that was really wonderful…” said Fair.
Since most students seemed to enjoy this year’s spirit week competition, many are wondering if student council will plan something else like it next year.
“Probably, if it was a success, and the student body liked it. We always like to reflect on what went well and what didn’t. So, if it went well then absolutely we will do it again,” said McCullough.
