Naviance is making life even easier for seniors this year.

Some new perks Naviance is providing includes suggesting colleges that match student interests and providing scholarship information and easy access to The Common Application.

Guidance Counselor Kate Miklos believes that Naviance will help a lot of students with their college searches.

“It’s a great resource. Students can go right in and see the different colleges. They can see the expected GPAs and test scores, and the college scattergrams can give students the information they need to know,” said Miklos.

In Naviance, students can search through colleges and add them to a list of colleges that they are thinking about. After looking through more information about the college, students can later add them to a list of colleges they are applying to after setting up their own Common Application profile.

The Common Application is what most students use to apply to the colleges of their choice. Students will need to take time to fill out their profile and other information about themselves, including the personal essay and information about the courses they are taking.

Guidance Counselor Matthew Shervington believes that Naviance will be very helpful with tracking the college transcripts and setting up letters of recommendation.

“Letters of recommendation and transcripts will be able to get to schools in less than twenty-four hours,” said Shervington. “Ask your teacher in person out of professionalism, and then you can request letters of recommendation through Naviance.”

Naviance isn’t just going to help students with their college search, but it will also help students search for the most suitable career for them. Students can create career goals and tasks to prepare them for their future.

Many students this year will find Naviance to be helpful, but others are confused about how it works and what to fill out on the website.

Senior Amber Manuel is already making a lot of use out of Naviance but believes that guidance can help the students view it as less confusing.

“I find it confusing, but at the same time, I find it helpful to be on the right track to get us where we need to be,” said Manuel. “I’ve used it to look for Pennsylvania colleges. It’s keeping me on the right track, and I believe it will be helpful.”

Though students can’t apply to colleges through Naviance; the website provides links to different college websites and scholarships that students will have an easy time finding.

Sophomores and juniors will also use the tool for their graduation project.

“In Career Seminar classes, the sophomores will be using it. Juniors are definitely using it for their graduation project, and they’re looking for college applications and information,” said Shervington. “As a student in high school, you may not know what you want to do after you graduate, and that’s perfectly fine, but it’s our job as counselors to help you. This is why we’re so invested in Naviance, because it can help you look for college information.”

If students need help with preparing for college, the guidance office is always open to answer questions.

“Work with your counselor. If you have questions, write them down. It’s your future, so make sure you’re getting the information that you need, so you get where you want to be,” said Miklos.
