National Sibling Day Brings Siblings Close
April 20, 2016
National Sibling Day was on Sunday, April 10, and social media filled up with adoring pictures of siblings sharing their love. Even though Sibling Day is over, siblings at Susquehannock continue to share their love by remaining close.
From taking quick selfies to posting old pictures from when they were kids, many people took the time to participate in National Sibling Day.
Originally founded in 1997, but officially saluted as a holiday in 2005, the holiday was created by a woman named Claudia Evart. On this day, Evart took the time to honor the memory of her brother and sister, who both passed away at early ages. Since then, people take the time to celebrate the holiday by honoring the relationships of siblings across the country.
Junior Nathan Sergent reflects on his relationship with his twin sister Rachel Sergent, still maintaining a close relationship with her.
“We used to fight a lot, but now she helps me with my schoolwork,” said Sergent. “She’s helped me with biology and math before. I have English with her, and I used to take choir with her. I have lunch with her, too.”
Sophomore Erica D’Amore enjoys spending time with her older brother, Jacob D’Amore, after school at home.
“I like when we just get home from school, and we just sit at the kitchen table and talk. Sometimes we just wander around the house while talking to each other,” said D’Amore. “We just talk about the day, and sometimes we play video games together.”
Junior Seth Bilbie enjoys being on the Boys Soccer team with his twin brother, Aaron Bilbie.
“I play defense, and he plays goalie. We have a close chemistry together when we play,” said Bilbie. “I have math, lunch, and English with him.”
Many siblings around Susquehannock still maintain a close relationship with each other, as if every day was Sibling Day to them.
