Warriors Win Division
February 8, 2016
The Lady Warriors won their division at home with an undefeated division record of 14-0 on January 29.
The team went into this game with their heads high, looking to clinch the division title against the Dover Eagles, repeating the same motto used in every game “play hard and smart defense.”
The Warriors came out fresh from rest and pushed a 14-4 lead in the first quarter. Pushing the pass, the girls only let Dover score 11 points out of the entire first half. When the girls needed a spark, coach Schreiner put in freshman Jayla Galbreath as she poured in 11 points for the team. Senior guard Ashley Stone added in 13 points of her own in the second half which pushed the Warriors to their largest lead of the game at 25.
Junior guard Taylor Tannura was excited about the win.
“It felt like an accomplishment knowing that all the hard work paid off,” Tannura said.
Senior guard Ashley Stone shared her thoughts about the season.
“The win felt great because we worked together to accomplish our team goal,” Stone said.
As the Eagles hit some key shots to hope for a comeback, they were stopped in their tracks with the outstanding defense played by the Warriors. When the Eagles tried to push on the fast break, they were stopped by junior forward Tyler Williams who contributed 13 points of her own off of rebounds and putbacks.
The ladies won the title at home, 55-35.
