Eat This, Not That
January 20, 2016
When you first open a new bag of chips, how can you resist the crunchy, salty taste? You have to resist it though because you made a resolution to eat healthy, which obviously is not any fun. But, by choosing the right snacks, you can eat the healthiest you’ve ever eaten, and it’s not by just munching on carrots all day.
Everybody craves sweet treats and salty snacks, which is fine, but these foods should not be your go-to meal. There are always healthy alternatives to be your go-to foods that will satisfy your cravings. If you are craving….
- A milkshake- Try a smoothie packed with lots of fruits.
- Greasy french fries- Try homemade baked sweet potato fries.
- Chocolate milk- Try chocolate soy or almond milk instead.
- Candy- Try trail mix with nuts and dried fruit.
-
Chips- Try organic popcorn
Another huge deciding factor of whether you gain or lose 10 pounds is portion control. Instead of eating all those empty carbs like pancakes or a big burger, try replacing your empty calories with filling, small meals. For breakfast, it is natural to be drawn towards those hot and steaming chocolate chip pancakes, but before you know it, you are reaching for your tenth pancake. An alternative breakfast is an oatmeal parfait, which is packed with lots of fruit that will keep you full all morning, so you can feel guilt free until lunch.
Lunch is the meal that you always tend to be the hungriest at, and that is natural because you finally get to eat food after sitting all morning in desks constantly doing work. If you are trying to be the healthiest you can be, even at school, try a packed lunch that you can prepare yourself. One example of a lunch that will keep you satisfied for the rest of the day is a healthy salad, some fresh fruit, and for a crunch in your lunch, you can add a homemade nutty granola bar. The combination of all three of these foods will keep you feeling light and fit.
Finally, it’s time for the “last supper” of the day, dinner, and you want to make it a good one too. For dinner, try loading your plate with vegetables and protein. To fulfill this you can make a homemade fish and asparagus meal with some quinoa on the side. This dinner will give you the lasting energy you need until it is breakfast once again.
Every time you put food in your mouth, you are either helping your health or destroying it. So, this year cut out the junk food, and eat the healthiest you can.
