Top Christmas Songs
Christmas time has always been filled with enthusiastic cheers and beautiful songs. Popular tracks such as “All I Want For Christmas” and “Silent Night” have played on the radio many times throughout the season.
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” has been on top since its release in 1994. But this year, Carey’s popular Christmas tune has been dethroned by The Shins’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” which has been played for a numerous amount of times since its release.
Here’s the top 10 list of songs played on the radio for this year’s Christmas season; originated by Today’s Pop Culture, but commentated by me.
1) The Shins’s “Wonderful Christmastime”
Originally created by singer Paul McCartney, Wonderful Christmastime has been a classic hit since released back in 1980. Now, American-Indie pop group, The Shins, performed McCartney’s Christmas hit and turned it into a twist of their own. With the radio playing the song hundreds of times, “Wonderful Christmastime” managed to crawl up to the #1 Christmas song of 2015, debunking long-time winner, “All I Want For Christmas”, to #2.
2) Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas”
Released in 1994, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” has been at the top of the Christmas song list since its release. The catchy tune of the song has had many of its listeners singing and dancing along to it, being a Christmas favorite. This year, Carey’s hit song has been dethroned to #2, but is still listened to widely among many people and is still played tremendously on radios, just not as much as “Wonderful Christmastime” has.
3) Christina Aguilera’s “Christmas Time”
Released in 2000 with the album, My Kind of Christmas, Christina Aguilera’s “Christmas Time” ranks #3 on the top Christmas songs for 2015. The album is Aguilera’s first Christmas album, which the album also holds other kind of classical songs sung by the popular American singer. The song has an interesting beat to it and can be found playing on radios all across the country.
4) The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping”
Originally released in 1981 with the Christmas album, A Christmas Record, the Waitresses’ top Christmas song, “Christmas Wrapping”, ranks #4 on top Christmas songs this year. The song has been included on numerous holiday albums and is mentioned by critics to be one of the best holiday pop tunes.
5) Jack Johnson’s “Someday At Christmas”
Released with the Christmas album, The Warm December, in 2008, Jack Johnson’s top Christmas song, “Someday At Christmas”, ranks #5 for top Christmas songs this year. The song is short and simple, but adds a nice melody to it to keep the Christmas mood active on the radio.
6) Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree”
Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree” ranks #6 on top Christmas songs this year. The song was released with Clarkson’s first Christmas album, Wrapped In Red, in 2013 and has been ranked has her top Christmas song since its release. The song is considered to be the main highlight of the album and is praised to be another great holiday classic.
7) Michael Bublé’s “Holly Jolly Christmas”
Michael Bublé’s “Holly Jolly Christmas” was released in 2011 and ranks #7 on the top list of Christmas song this year. The original song was written by Johnny Marks, performed by Burl Ives, and released in 1964 and even featured in the holiday classic, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.
8) Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”
The classic Christmas hit “White Christmas” was performed on NBC radio back in 1941 by Bing Crosby and is still recognized as a major Christmas classic since to this day. The classic Christmas tune is one of the oldest Christmas songs but is still widely played throughout radios today, making it rank to #8 on the top Christmas songs this year.
9) Train’s “What Christmas Means To Me”
Being one of the newest Christmas songs this year, Train’s “What Christmas Means To Me” has been played all across the nation and is the top newest Christmas song of 2015. The original song was composed and performed by Allen Story but has been remixed many times throughout the years by several different artists. With Train’s new twist to the song, “What Christmas Means To” Me ranks itself as #9 on the list of top Christmas songs played this year.
10) Ella Fitzgerald’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” has always been one of the public’s favorite Christmas songs, and Ella Fitzgerald hits it in an amazing tone. The song was released in Fitzgerald’s 1967 holiday album and is still a Christmas classic today. The song ranks itself as #10 on the top Christmas songs of this year, being played widely across the country.
