“FUN”D Day Helps Students
November 2, 2015
“FUN”D Day is a fundraiser created by senior student representative Matthew Barnhart to raise money for a $500 scholarship that will go to a graduating senior to further his or her education.
Barnhart is a member in student council, and he thought that it would be a great way to help fund a scholarship and improve school spirit district-wide in the process.
“FUN”D Day is a series of spirit days throughout the year in which students and staff pay one dollar to participate.
“I’m a student representative on the SYCSD Foundation and wanted to do something to be a more active member,” said Barnhart.
Like most teacher, Patti McGee likes the idea of having staff contribute to a scholarship fund.
“I had two daughters who both were recipients of scholarships from a foundation.I am more than happy to assist students in furthering their education; dressing wacky or wearing pajamas is a plus,”said McGee.
English teacher Madison Carr thinks that this fundraiser is a good idea too.
“ I think that it is a good idea to get students and teachers involved to raise money for a scholarship for a student,”said Carr.
The spirit days will be going on throughout te school year: December 17-Holiday Cheer day, March 8- Pajama day and May 5- Twin day.
Barnhart hopes to have “FUN”D day continue even after he graduates from school.
