By simply pinning a red ribbon, one more person will be aware of the use of illegal drugs and substances and the emotional and physical impact these drugs have. The Red Ribbon Campaign takes place this week and raises  awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs.

Many students are not aware of Red Ribbon week and how much it has helped people cope with the loss of loved ones to drugs.

Junior Mckenzie Gibson  knows she is living in a time when drugs have impacted society.

“ …students should not be doing drugs because it will eventually lead them down the wrong path in life,” said Gibson.

Librarian Kayse Corrieri has concerns about medical drugs.

“I think the biggest issue is the prescription drugs. The students think that it is fine for them to take because they are legal and given to them,” said Corrieri.

Sophomore Erin Kaliszak knows the risk of drugs, especially in a school environment.

“I think it is stupid for a student to do drugs in school where they most likely will be caught. They will ruin their school career if they get in trouble,” said Kaliszak.

If interested, stand up to drugs, and take the pledge by agreeing to  five concepts at  http://redribbon.org/pledge/.
