Hoco Proposals: The Element of Surprise
October 14, 2015
With homecoming only two weeks away, homecoming proposals are making their appearance again this year, as guys come up with clever ways to ask girls to be their date.
One of the most memorable proposals was between junior Philip Karpouzie and junior Addy Schefter, taking place in homeroom only a few weeks ago. A feeling of happiness was shared between the two, as Schefter agreed to go to homecoming with Karpouzie.
Putting forth lots of effort, Karpouzie wanted to make sure this proposal was perfect. Knowing that Schefter loves to play field hockey, he went out and bought her a field hockey stick. After spray painting it white, the word “Homecoming” was painted onto it in bold black letters. Karpouzie also created a poster using field hockey and cross country puns as a fun and creative way to ask Schefter to homecoming. On the poster was a drawing of Schefter’s favorite singer, Demi Lovato.
During the morning before the proposal, Schefter had no idea what was about to take place. To her, it was just going to be another normal day at Susquehannock. English teacher Sara Cieslewicz helped to play along with the surprise. Cieslewicz asked to see Addy in the hallway that morning during homeroom. Little did Addy know that a surprise was waiting for her right outside the door. Schefter and Cieslewicz went in the hall to see Karpouzie standing there, holding the field hockey stick and the poster. Schefter gasped in awe when she saw her surprise.
Schefter was very shocked and happy to see that Karpouzie was asking her to homecoming.
“I was really surprised because I had no idea he was going to ask me. Philip’s a close friend too,” said Schefter.
Karpouzie was also very happy with the results.
“I think it went pretty well. She seemed really happy about it, and I got many compliments on it,” said Karpouzie.
Junior Danielle Moore was also in the homeroom during this time and was able to witness the proposal.
“It was so cute. They both seemed very happy!” said Moore.
This 2015 hoco proposal was definitely memorable and successful!
