Fairie Fest Takes Over Glen Rock

By Ally Lilly, Reporter

Just outside of Baltimore, hidden away from the busyness of everyday life, people take a weekend to dance to the beat of drums and connect with nature in their own way. Wild mystical makeup, gypsy-esque outfits and live music are just of a few of the ways that people celebrated the annual Fairie Fest that took place from Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3 in Glen Rock at Spoutwood Farm.

The Fairie Fest is a yearly event at Spoutwood Farms, a plot of 26 acres of land in a tucked away location. The farm is about 45 minutes from Baltimore and provides the perfect, peaceful atmosphere for everything that the members of Fairie Fest strive for. With dancing, live music, storytellers and camping grounds made available, it is a great event for people of all ages to enjoy themselves and celebrate nature. The goal of Fairie Fest is to allow people to come and connect with nature and to enjoy the environment through a variety of fun activities.

Senior Eleri Burnett has been attending Fairie Fest since she was in fourth grade and enjoys the way the festival has expanded over the years.

“Overall it’s just become a more friendly environment where kids that are 3 or 4 are walking with adults and retiring age,” said Burnett. “There are activities for kids, like the first day is a kids get in for free day, and there are mazes and little fairie houses built…but then there’s the music teenagers and adults like, and then shopping for everybody.”

Senior Brandi Bradford also attended Fairie Fest. This year was Bradford’s first year ever attending Fairie Fest, and she enjoyed the judgement free environment that Fairie Fest offered.

“I like that everyone can be weird. There were guys in dresses, and there were girls dressed really weird, and it was okay, like nobody was judging them, nobody thought that it was weird, and it was really fun, and I got to meet weird characters and interesting people,” said Bradford. “There’s this whole culture that we weren’t aware of; this weird cool magical fairie culture.”

Bradford was asked to go to Fairie Fairie Fest by a friend and enjoyed all the games, activities and other entertainment that Fairie Fest had to offer.

Faire Fest is continuing to grow every year, and with more activities offered every year and a welcoming environment, it is worth checking out.
