Lady Lacrosse Warriors Make History
April 2, 2015
Mark the date for March 24 because the lady lacrosse warriors made history by beating the York Catholic Irish, 6-4.
This game meant everything to these ladies, and now they finally want some bragging rights.
Senior Ashley Valway knows how important it is to keep your head straight during a big game.
“We were very nervous, but we did not let this anxiety get to us because we wanted the win so bad,” said Valway.
The lady warrior’s motive was to get in and get the win. The game started off nice when the first goal was scored by Ashley Valway with only 3 minutes into the first half. The Warriors struck first, but the Irish came fighting right back by scoring 5 minutes after.
Junior Madison Ellis was able to pick up on the team’s weaknesses.
“ In the first half, I felt that we weren’t playing as a team because we were very nervous,” said Ellis.
With 18 minutes into the first half senior Katelyn Welch got a free goal, which put the Warrior’s second goal onto the board. The Irish led 3-2 going into the second half. With Welch’s free kick that sparked a comeback, the warriors were on an unstoppable scoring rampage scoring 5 goals in the second half. The Irish didn’t know what hit them. The Warrior’s defense was unstoppable; goalie Amber Orner saved 14 out of the 18 Irish attempts.
“If Amber wasn’t there, we probably would’ve lost; she’s a really big part of our squad,” Ellis said.
With the Warriors leading 5-4 in the second half, senior Valway sealed the deal with her second goal, putting the Warriors up 6-4.
Junior Rachel Miller experienced many emotions at the end of the game.
“After the game, we all wanted to cry, but we were so excited the tears wouldn’t come out,” said Miller.
This game is the biggest win so far this season, and they plan on many more.
