March Madness: A Sweet 16 Update
March 25, 2015
March Madness is upon us, and so is the science of Bracketology. The first two rounds are complete; the Sweet Sixteen teams are set. Key games include: Kentucky and West Virginia, Wisconsin and North Carolina, Arizona and Xaiver, Duke and Utah and NC State and Louisville.
But this is a prediction column, and let’s face facts: Kentucky will not make it past the final four this year. On the surface Kentucky is an excellent all around team, demonstrated by their undefeated 36-0 record.
Kentucky’s brilliant play has been unmatched this season. Consistent play from Aaron Harrison, Devin Booker, Andrew Harrison and the rest of the starting five have led Kentucky to the number one seed in the Mid Western conference, and it looks like they aren’t finished quite yet. Kentucky is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
One large threat towards Kentucky could be a Kentucky and West Virginia match-up. This is unlikely though as the Wildcats are just too good.
The Wildcats (The Arizona Wildcats that is) should be able to put an end to Kentucky’s perfect season in a final four matchup. Stanley Johnson has been putting points on the board for the Arizona Wildcats and could help even lead Arizona to a National Championship.
North Carolina should also put up a good fight against Wisconsin, and perhaps prevail. North Carolina has played well all season long, and Wisconsin will not be a problem for the Tar Heels.
Duke is also a gargantuan threat to anyone in their path, as they play with team chemistry unmatched by most other teams. Perhaps the Utah can upset the high powered number one seeded Duke Blue Devils and find themselves in the final four against
Louisville. The Louisville Cardinals will look to repeat their winning ways dating back to 2013, where they won the national championship.NC State is a great basketball team, but Louisville is better. Louisville will beat NC State play in the national championship against the Arizona Wildcats.
But this is March Madness, and anything is possible.
