Patriots Fly Home Champions
February 13, 2015
The New England Patriots brawled their way to victory against the Seattle Seahawks during the Super Bowl XLIX played in Glendale, Arizona last Sunday on February 1. The Seahawks returned to the Super Bowl after winning last year’s against the Denver Broncos. The Patriots are returning to the Super Bowl after the 2012 loss against the New York Giants.
The game started with a scoreless first quarter with back and forth turnovers and 3rd down conversion failures.

The game finally opened up in the second quarter when Patriots quarterback Tom Brady connected to receiver Brandon Lafell, making the score 7-0. The Seahawks quickly retaliated with a run by Marshawn Lynch into the end zone. Then at the end of the quarter, Brady hit Rob Gronkowski on a slant route to score, tying the game 14-14 to finish the quarter.
Seattle then opened up the score in the third quarter by scoring twice. Kicker Steven Houska put the ball through the uprights from 27 yards out, giving them a three point cushion. The Seahawks drove down the field again and completed a three yard pass to receiver Doug Baldwin. With that crushing blow, the Seahawks took a ten point lead shortly before the third quarter ended.
When the fourth quarter started, the Seahawks had the momentum their way and expected to come out on top. The Patriots shattered the expectations of the crowd and marched down the field to score against the momentum-driven team.
The Patriots were down by three points up until two minutes left in the game when Brady hooked up with receiver Julian Edelman in the end zone giving them the lead. When the Seahawks’ hopes were down and out, they mustered up enough strength to drive down the field one last time and had one shot.
With seconds to go, they were at the goal line and were inches from scoring when a gutsy call was made by the coach to pass. The ball was picked off by Malcolm Butler with 20 seconds to play. The Patriots began to celebrate the win because all they had to do was kneel the ball. The spot of the ball was on the goal-line, and the only hope for the Seahawks was to push forward and keep Brady in the end zone for a safety.
The only hope they had ended when Michael Bennett jumped offside for a five yard encroachment. The Patriots had seconds to go and no worries. As Brady snapped the ball, he knelt, and the Patriots won the Super Bowl.
