Which Breakfast Food Reigns Supreme-Pancakes or Waffles?
March 9, 2022
Picture this- it’s breakfast time, you smell something, mouthwatering sweet, almost cake-like…what do you see?
Pancakes or waffles?
A poll ran on Instagram for 24 hours and came back with the proud winner of pancakes.
Pancakes won 56 percent to 44 percent out of 100 people.
Personally, I support this answer.
Pancakes with some warm maple syrup and a side of fruit are the perfect start to any morning.
Though I prefer pancakes to waffles, I understand why some people may think waffles are the better option.
Their structure provides a unique texture that some may find better then the simple smoothness of a pancake.
Now don’t get me wrong, I think waffles are alright too, but the actual structure of waffles is just impractical.
The little square pockets in the waffles are nice, but it’s really annoying when one pocket has syrup and the next one doesn’t, so the syrup to waffle ratio is wildly inconsistent.
Now if we are talking about homemade waffles, this next part is not a problem, but with freezer waffles, it is impossible to get them to cook evenly.
The outsides get crunchy and the insides do not always get warm enough, so it’s just upsetting overall.
The same issue can happen with pancakes, but since they are smooth, it does not really happen as much unless you have a dysfunctional toaster.
While I might not be the biggest advocate for waffles being the better option, homemade Belgium
waffles with a bit of syrup and powdered sugar on top are absolutely delicious, and on a good day, I might even pick them over pancakes.
Waffles are alright as long as they aren’t too crunchy on the outside.
I really only can appreciate them when their texture stays consistent.
But a three-pancake-tall stack of chocolate chip pancakes with warm syrup drizzled over them with a side of fresh blueberries is absolutely better than any sort of waffles any day of the week.
The poll results don’t lie; pancakes are the better option.
