Take a Stand Against Childhood Cancer

February 23, 2022

Mini-THON continues to raise money to help conquer childhood cancer, aiming for their goal of $22,000.

So far Mini-THON has raised over $10,000, nearing their goal but still struggling with the help they are looking for.

At the start of February, Mini-THON kicked off their annual Snow King competition.

At the pep rally, the snow kings gathered over 2,000 cans that were donated to the SYC food pantry.

Senior Brandon Bontoyan is the snow king for the 2022 school year, having raised the most money and cans.

This competition involved junior and senior boys raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund and collecting canned goods that get donated to the SYC food pantry.

The crowning of the snow king was held at a pep rally on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022.

During this pep rally, two games were held, family feud and knockout.

Two guest speakers, Cindy Altland and April Krodel, spoke at the pep rally to share their stories about Mini-THON and childhood cancer.

The cheerleaders also had their performance during the pep rally.

Along with Snow King, Mini-THON club is urging everyone to send out social media posts to help them gain more donations.

They have also created a QR code to scan and sign up to attend the Mini-THON event on Mar 4, 2022.

Students can also register via this form which requires no payment (just name and shirt size).  There is a $25 minimum donation required to attend the event,  and students are encouraged to seek donors in order to obtain $100+ as all proceeds benefit Four Diamonds.

In addition to signing up, Spanish teacher and Mini-THON adviser Heather Walker is asking for all participants to pay the $25 to attend and to raise an additional $100 to help hit the goal of $22,000.

Mini-THON is still in need of corporate sponsorships and donations towards the main event.

Businesses have been very reluctant to donate to the club, making it hard for the members and volunteers to obtain sponsorships.

Students are invited to join the Mini-THON club on March 4, 2022, for the major event to help take a stand against cancer.

Wednesday, Feb. 23 is the deadline to sign up to attend the main event in order to receive a free t-shirt.
