Girls Basketball Prepped Individually over Break

January 15, 2021

The girls basketball team kept the pace over break, working out despite the three weeks off.

The coaches sent out strength training and ball workouts to keep the team in shape over the three-week break due to the pandemic.

The team also met virtually via Google Hangouts. After being away from the court for so long, it might be difficult for them to return.

Assistant Coach Alex Fancher thinks the girls will be prepared for the upcoming games, after the setbacks.

“We wanted the players to stay active, so we tried to encourage them to do workouts when they could,” said Fancher. “But at the same time knowing that it is hard to stay motivated.”

Sophomore Haley Hebel enjoyed attending the virtual meetings and workouts.

“We were expected to workout independently,” said Hebel. “A lot of our coaches emailed us workouts that we could do, but we were expected to do them by ourselves.”

Sophomore Evelyn Weldon stayed active over the break and completed various workouts.

I continued to be active,” said Weldon. “My brother would push me to be active. I would set a schedule to make sure I was active and keeping in shape for the season. The workouts I did helped me get stronger, prevent injuries and stay in shape. However, I don’t think I gained as much as I would at practice.”

Girls basketball is playing away against Northeastern Senior High School at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18. The game will be live streamed here.
