Boys Basketball Prepares for the Unknown
November 14, 2017
A new basketball coach will soon be taking over the boys varsity team just days before tryouts begin.
Although the new coach is yet to be announced, many players, including senior point guard Jordan McMillion, have stayed focused, preparing for the season.
“We’ve been prepping by trying to build better chemistry with each other,” said McMillion. “We’ve been hanging out more, making us more of a family. We’ve also been getting into the gym more to get shots up and get conditioned.”
The question of who will take over the head coaching position is still on the minds of the players.
Junior forward Will Ogude has an idea of what kind of coach the team needs.
“I think we need a coach who is open to new ideas,” said Ogude. “If we’re down in games, we need someone who is going to give us new energy.”
Athletic director Brad Keeney, principal Kevin Molin, returning players, and some parents took part in the interview process which started November 9.
“We have to do a very fair interview process,” said Keeney. “…We’re going to evaluate, and we’re going to see who is going to be the best person to put in front of the kids.”
Keeney has no doubt the basketball team can have success this year.
“I think this is the most talent we’ve had in a long time,” said Keeney. “We have a group of kids who have joined together as a team which is very important….I want to see them grow as people, and that will be success in my opinion.”
