Susquehannock High School Alumni Association Announces Donald A. “Pappy” VanMeter Jr. Scholarship

The Susquehannock Alumni Association recently announced a scholarship in honor of Donald A. “Pappy” VanMeter Jr. who was a member of the class of 1970.

VanMeter was a significant contributor, volunteer, and member of the Board of Directors of the Glen Rock Athletic Association (GRAA) for over 30 years.  The GRAA originated in 1946 as the non-profit sponsor of local youth baseball teams.  VanMeter donated much of his time maintaining and mowing the baseball field located at Glen Rock Park.  He also volunteered and was the host of the concession stand during Glen Rock Minors, Glen Rock Junior Legion, Glen Rock Senior Legion, and Glen Rock Central League home games.  To this day, the Glen Rock Park concession stand is known as the “Pappy Shack.”  He witnessed hundreds of Glen Rock baseball games over his long career.  VanMeter was 63 when he passed away in August, 2016.

If you wish to contribute to the Susquehannock Alumni Association’s Donald A. “Pappy” VanMeter Jr. scholarship, please contact the Southern York County School District Foundation at [email protected] or call 717-235-4811.
