Three programs from the Southern York County School District were recently presented at the Pennsylvania School Board Association Leadership Conference and Education Excellence Fair in Hershey, PA.

“Design Thinking: Inspiring Student-Led Innovation in the Classroom” used the design thinking process to develop a student-led recycling initiative within Susquehannock High School. Susquehannock High School principal Dr. Kevin Molin and advanced placement environmental science teacher Barb Nealon presented the information along with students Hannah Naylor, Matthew Laven, and Derek Timlin.

“Utilizing Data to Transform Physical Education K-12” is a data-based initiative adopted by Southern York County School District as a means for students and teachers to document, track, and modify individual fitness programs based on the personalized student fitness results in physical education class.  Southern Middle School physical education teachers Brett Maxwell and Darla Pennewill, Shrewsbury Elementary School physical education teacher Kristen Mikita, and Southern Middle School principal Dr. Len Reppert presented the program.

“Using Design Thinking to Foster School Innovation” was an educational session presented by assistant superintendent Dr. Robert Bryson, Susquehannock High School principal Dr. Kevin Molin, and Southern Middle School principal Dr. Len Reppert. Design thinking is used to solve problems through logic, imagination, intuition, and systematic reasoning to create a beneficial outcome.

Superintendent Dr. Sandra Lemmon attended the conference and congratulated her colleagues. “Once again, we are so proud of our teachers, students, and administrators who presented such amazing and innovative programs.  These programs are being utilized in the Southern York County School District, and it is an honor to be showcased at the Pennsylvania School Board Leadership Conference and Excellence Fair,” Lemmon said.
