Alumni Association names scholarship in memory of alumnus, David Pearson ’87
April 16, 2015
David Pearson was born in 1967 in Norfolk, Va. He had two sisters, Jean and Janette and a brother, Dean. When Dave was six-weeks old, the family moved to Austin, Texas for four years, then to Bel Air, Md. for three years, and then on to Shrewsbury, Pa.
Dave was a lifelong sports fan. He began playing football in the SYC Youth League. While at SHS, he played varsity football for the Warriors, as well as soccer and basketball.
After Dave graduated in 1987, he worked several jobs until deciding to continue his education. In 1989, he attended Penn State and two years later transferred to West Chester University. In 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Shortly after graduation, Dave met Christina Beverly, with whom he married in 1996. Two years later, the love of Dave’s life, his son, Christopher James, better known as C.J. was born. Dave coached C.J.’s baseball teams and was known for his gentle coaching style.
On Sunday, September 3, 2006 Dave was killed in a car accident. Dave was just 38 years old. Dave was employed by Zurich Insurance Company at the time of his death.
As much as Dave loved sports, he loved children even more. Dave was known to faithfully support St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Because he hated to see young ones suffer, this scholarship will go to a graduating senior that plans to go into the medical research field.
The Susquehannock Alumni Association encourages your donations to the Dave Pearson Memorial Scholarship Fund to help keep this scholarship active.
