One of, if not the most, iconic symbols of the season is the pumpkin. Pumpkin patches have had so much popularity that they have been able to make whole events surrounding families going pumpkin picking with contests, merchandise, small markets, hayrides, and outdoor entertainment for children aside from the actual pumpkins themselves. They can be seen on porches sometimes all the way into December as people keep them as long as they can as an idealized image of autumn.
