With the playoffs being new to the 2014 college football season, it is hard for anyone to predict exactly what will happen in the four slot playoff.

As of 7:30 am on December 2 the following teams have been selected into the top four #1 Alabama, #2 Oregon, #3 TCU, and #4 FSU.  Teams just short of the top four Are : Ohio State, Baylor, and Arizona.  An analyses of the top four teams are necessary for a prediction on the outcome of their season.

Alabama

The Crimson Tide always seems to make it in the top 5.  As much as I hate, and I emphasize HATE the Tide, they are one of the best college football programs in the

Bama is always a contender for a national championship, and this year is no different.  Although one difference this year is the one dash in the loss column.  In the fifth week of the season Bama suffered a loss to fellow SEC conference member Ole Miss.

The loss to Ole Miss was a surprise to all Alabama fans as Ole Miss has never made much of a competition of the matchup.  The sloppy play by the Crimson Tide made it easy for the Rebels to capitalize on open opportunities.

After the game the tide has been sweeping the competition with an exception to an OT thriller against LSU.  It is obvious that the tide will be seated at the number one slot in the playoffs.

Senior quarterback Blake Sims, who is 22nd in the nation, is leading his offense with passing yards per game with 2988 yards this season.  The sensational defense is 6th in the nation for points against with an average of 16 per game.

If Bama can hold off #16 Missouri, which they should, it’s safe to say they will be the top seed in the playoffs, and they will play the number four seed which they should win.

Oregon

The Oregon Ducks have been searching for a national championship since the late 2000’s.  They have a great possibility to win the championship this year, but they have to get through the team that gave them their only loss this year, Arizona.

The Arizona wildcats have upset the Oregon ducks two years in a row now and plan to do it again Saturday, December 6.  If the Ducks can stop the Wildcats pass game and freshman quarterback Anu Solomon, they will win the game.  After they win this game they should clinch the second slot in the playoff bracket.0

The Ducks have a lightning offense that is one of, if not, the fastest in the NCAA.  With Heisman trophy candidate junior Marcus Mariota the offense can do no wrong.  With 36 passing touchdowns, 11 rushing touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions it is safe to say Mariota is leading the offense to great things.  A championship game will be one, but I can not see them winning the championship.

Texas Christian University (TCU)

The Horn frogs are a cinderella story.  If you were to ask a random person a year ago if they knew who TCU was, more than likely they would not of known.  The Horn Frogs made a huge splash early in the season, upsetting the former #4 ranked Oklahoma sooners in the fourth week.  A great game against Baylor served the frogs their first and only loss, but many fans still believe TCU is the real deal.

TCUs passing game is among the top ten in Division I being ranked eighth.  They are also third in the nation with most points per game.

As much as I would like TCU to make it into the playoffs, they will make the top four.  The only weakness on their part is their schedule.  The hardest team they have had to play this year was against Baylor which they lost to.   They are not a top 3 or a top team.  If they make the playoffs, they won’t make it past the first round.

Florida State University (FSU)

If you haven’t had a minor heart attack while watching an FSU game, chances are you’re not alive.  FSU has had more than its fair share of last minute game winners.  Seven out of the 13 games were won by ten points or less.  The Seminoles have not lost a game this year, which puts them in a great position.  Even though they haven’t had the toughest schedule, the fact they are unbeaten will get them a playoff spot.  If they win against #11 Georgia Tech, they are guaranteed the spot even if its the fourth and last spot.

As every college football fan knows, anything can happen.  Expect to see some wild games through the playoffs and hope for the best for TCU.
