Boys Basketball Seeks Wins

It was evident when speaking to the three Warrior basketball captains this season, senior Aaron Portner, junior Josh Stoneberg, and junior Nick Tannura, something was not the same. These three players expressed a tenacious goal for the season: to win games- losing is out of the question for these young men. Although the team is moving up a division this year, from division 3 to the larger and more competitive division 2, Stoneberg seemed unflappable in his confidence for the season.

“I’m very excited for this season,” said Stoneberg. “Nick, Aaron, Luke Thomas, and myself are ready for a very win filled season. We worked all summer long to get better, and now it’s time for that effort to pay off.”

Portner is expecting a lot from this team this season as well.

“I expect to win this season,” said Portner. “I want to average at least 15 points a game. After going to every workout this off season, and even hosting a few without coaches present, I think we have a very good shot to win quite a few games and be a very good basketball team.”

Tannura has set himself plenty of individual goals this season.

“I’m excited about dunking,” said Tannura. “We’re a team. We play team ball. That will be the key to our success.”

Tryouts for the team will be held in the main gym November 17 and 18. The team’s first game will be played at Suburban High School on December 9.
