In this year’s Major League Baseball season,  the teams making the postseason are highly unexpected.

This year’s MLB playoffs consist of the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and L.A. Angels for the American League leaders. The Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals and L.A. Dodgers for National League leaders.

Junior Dean Lochte believes the Orioles have a chance to go all the way to the world series.

“If they continue to play the way they are, they will have no trouble making their way up the ranks,” said Lochte. “ The Bluejays do not have a chance to come back from the deficit they are in right now.”

In the AL Central, Kansas City is 1.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers, which means all is fair for the division win.

In the West, the Oakland A’s are 10.5 games back from LA Angels. The Angels can breeze by the rest of the season to playoffs.

Junior Chase Summers thinks the Angels are the number one seed for the World Series.

“They should have no problem beating any other team the way they have played this year,” said Summers.”The world series should never not be an option for the Angels; The team is outstanding this year.”

The National League’s Atlanta Braves are ten games behind the Washington Nationals, so the Nationals would have to lose the majority of their games, and Atlanta would have a consecutive winning streak, which is highly unlikely in the eyes of MLB.com.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are three games behind St. Louis Cardinals, but the Pirates are closing the lead with a two game win streak.

San Francisco Giants are behind the L.A. Dodgers only three games but have lost the past series. They will have to step up their game if they want to clinch the playoff spot.

MLB.com says that Baltimore has a one hundred percent chance  in winning their division, considering they are 11.5 games ahead of the majority of the teams. Along with the Orioles, the Angles also have a 100% chance of winning their division.

Drivers Ed. teacher Doug Truscott has a different opinion from MLB.com.

“ I believe the Angels will win, but I don’t think the Orioles will,” said Truscott. “The Dodgers are also going to come out on top being the Angels and Dodgers for the World Series.”

It’s a 45-55% ratio between the Tigers and the Royals. If the Tigers win their games, the top three teams for American League will be Baltimore, Detroit and Kansas City.

In the National League the top three teams are the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals and LA Dodgers. All three teams have a 50% or more chance of winning their division and clinching playoff spots.
