The varsity football team is excited to start a new season with their new head coach JC Lewis.

Lewis is more than ready to take on the season with the team

“They are a great group of men to coach,” said Lewis. “They work hard and love to play the game.”

Although the football team lost a good amount of seniors last year, Lewis’s roster still consists of twenty plus seniors.

Lewis is ecstatic for this year’s team, whether they are new or returning players.

“We have a lot of young seniors who didn’t get a ton of time last year,” said Lewis. “ We have a bunch of guys who have stepped up and filled the positions of the leaving seniors.”

They have a whole new workout and a whole new playbook.

Sophomore Kerry Baum likes the new face that Lewis brings to the team.

“He’s inspiring, has a good attitude, and always pushes us to do better,’ said Baum. “I have a good feeling about this year with Coach Lewis.”

The athletes are facing a whole new workout compared to years past under Lewis. They are using different weight room procedures, a different practice atmosphere, and different ways to condition themselves to prepare for their first game.

Senior Ray Wenger is always up for change, especially if the change is for the good of the team.

“Although it’s different from years past, it’s an effective and efficient way to play the game,” said Wenger. “The confidence level of the team under Lewis is going to take us far if we train hard and play the game we love.”

Lewis and the team played their first game on Friday, August, 29 at Northern High School. Although they had a hard loss, 48-22, it was a chance to get a grip on the new year.
