Soccer and volleyball continue postseason runs

SOCCER: The boys soccer team took down the #1 ranked Gettysburg Warriors, 4-2 in penalty kicks, in the quarterfinals of the district tournament on Thursday, October 24 at Hershey Stadium. With the score at 0-0, senior Timmy Wilson shot past Gettysburg’s goalie to end the game sending Susquehannock to the semifinal round of districts. Senior goalie Mike Jones had four saves on goal and senior Nathan Bilbie, senior Ryan Chilcoat and junior Duncan Mitchell assisted in penalty kicks.

  Just days after beating the #1 ranked team in districts, the Warriors fell to #4 ranked Oley Valley in the semifinals of the district tournament on Monday, October 28 at Hershey Stadium. The game was forced into the second overtime after a scoreless regulation and first overtime and was then ended when Oley Valley junior Ben Kerkeslager found the back of the net with 2:01 left in the second overtime. Jones had another fantastic game with 10 saves on goal.

 Although the Warriors are knocked out of the finals of districts, they still have a shot at the state tournament, playing #2 ranked Manheim Central at 3:00 p.m. at Northeastern High School on Saturday, November 2.

VOLLEYBALL: The girls volleyball team is still unstoppable, beating Governor Mifflin in just three sets in the sweet 16 round of the District tournament, our Division I champions held off the Mustangs in a tough second set, taking home the win on the third set.

   Key players for the game included junior Abby Bentz with 15 kills, 9 assists, and 10 digs, senior Abbey Barnhart with 7 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 9 digs, and 3 blocks, senior Bethany Miller with 3 assists, 1 ace, and 31 digs, and Sophomore Kelly Franz with 15 assists and 5 digs,

    Susquehannock knocked down Governor Mifflin in all three sets, (25-15, 32-30, 25-18).

    This past Tuesday the Warriors once again came out and defeated Warwick in all three sets (25-12, 25-22, 25-21).

     Key players included senior Abbey Barnhart with 4 kills, 1 ace, and 5 digs, senior Bethany Miller with 2 assists, 1 ace, and 20 digs, senior Halle Murdock with 3 kills and 3 blocks, and junior Abby Bentz with 13 kills, 19 assists, and 13 digs.

     Winning this game takes the girls to the semifinals, playing Cumberland Valley on Thursday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Dallastown High School.
