Hello SYCSD Families!  As the seasons change and illness becomes more prevalent, the school nurses wanted to remind families to please continue evaluating students every morning prior to their scheduled school days.  Using this chart is the best way to ensure that we are keeping our school community safe.  These are the same recommended guidelines that the school nurses use throughout the day to monitor and evaluate students.

If your child has 1 symptom from list A or 2 symptoms from list B, please keep your child home from school and contact your primary care provider.  In addition, if your child is taking any medication to treat or reduce a fever, including Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol), they are not permitted to attend school that day.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school nurse.

Group A

1 or more symptoms

Group B

2 or more symptoms

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Unable to smell
  • Unable to taste
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Weakness
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion or runny nose

In addition to evaluating students each day, another way to help keep our SYCSD families healthy is by getting vaccinated for influenza.  Many local pharmacies, walk-in clinics, and primary care providers have started administering flu shots.  While it is not required for school attendance, it is highly recommended in order to reduce illness.  If you need assistance in obtaining information on what resources are available, please contact your child’s school nurse.
