Senior Week: Go somewhere new

There are many beaches one can visit for senior week besides Ocean City!

As the weather starts to warm up, seniors are starting to consider their senior week destinations, but what most don’t realize is that there are other spots to spend their week besides Ocean City.

While Ocean City is close and familiar, there are other beaches out there, so don’t be afraid to go against the norm and check them out.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware:
Very close to Ocean City is Rehoboth Beach. Located in Delaware, Rehoboth has many aspects of O.C., such as it’s own boardwalk and many beach themed stores; however, this summer destination can have more of a relaxed feel than that of upbeat O.C.. Rehoboth is the perfect relaxing getaway to spend with friends before you all part ways.

For more information on Rehoboth, visit http://www.cityofrehoboth.com/.

Virginia Beach:

Just a few more hours away, Virginia Beach is a popular summertime destination that one could look into. One can have just as much fun here as at Ocean City– there’s a boardwalk, water parks, and more! For those who haven’t been to Busch Gardens before, one can drive over and visit during their week here.

Outer Banks, North Carolina:

For those who have visited OBX before, they know it is both beautiful and relaxing. One can simply enjoy a day on the beach right in front of the house they rented, or go out and explore if they choose. Many places throughout OBX offer paddle boarding, fishing, and more adventurous activities. If one is tired of the crowded beaches of O.C. and doesn’t mind a longer drive, OBX is the place!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina:

Rent jet skis, go banana boating, take a dolphin cruise, or spend a day splashing in the waves in Myrtle Beach, SC. Like most beaches, Myrtle Beach also has a boardwalk, arcades, and amusement parks for tourists. Although it is much like other beaches, it is a nice change of scenery from that of OC. Furthermore, the further south you go, the clearer the water is.

Miami Beach is a beautiful place to visit!
The state of Florida is filled with beaches for senior week attendees. More popular destinations include Miami Beach, Palm Beach, Key West, and South Beach. Each destination varies in aspects such as size and entertainment. Miami Beach is of course a more crowded beach with its own boardwalk. Palm Beach is a less densely visited area because it is a little on the pricier side, but it is a beautiful place. Key West is a relaxing island just off the coast of mainland Florida where tourists can snorkel or canoe right off the beach. Finally, South Beach is a heavily visited beach destination with an active night life.

Senior Allison Quigg is going to Vero Beach, Florida for senior week.

“I’m excited to go to Florida for senior week because it’s something different that I can do with my closest friends,” said Quigg.

One can research more Florida destinations through http://www.visitflorida.com/beaches.

If one wants to spend their senior week at a place other than the familiar crowded beaches of Ocean City, one of these popular vacation destinations could be the place for you!

“I can go to Ocean City anytime,” explained Quigg. “Florida is more exciting!”
