SMS Music Dept Performs at High Note Festivals

May 28, 2019

On Friday, May 17, 2019 the Southern Middle School Music Department (Choir, Band and Orchestra) all participated in the 2019 High Note Festivals. The High Note Festivals are an adjudication performance where participating music ensembles perform for a panel of two or three professional musicians that provide oral and written feedback about each performance. The adjudicators then use a rubric to evaluate each performance and a score is assigned. Performing groups can earn a Fair Rating (0-69), Good (70-79), Excellent (80-89), Superior (90 -100). It is with great pride and excitement that the SMS Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Jay Althouse received a score of 97 and a rating of SUPERIOR. The SMS Band, under the direction of Mr. Justin Presley and the SMS Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Zach Levi also earned the rating of SUPERIOR. Congratulations to all of the students and their directors on three very fine performances to wrap-up the 2018-2019 school year!
