Two students were selected to participate in the All Eastern Band Concert held on April 7 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

In order to make it into the concert, students had to have made All State the previous year of selection and are required to do a stately audition video.

The concert happens every two years, so it is not guaranteed students will make it multiple times.

Junior Hayden McGarvey has been in band for eight years and was thrilled to be selected for the concert.

“I was very excited to be playing in such a high level of music, and I was very ecstatic about it,” said McGarvey.

McGarvey played multiple instruments- including the bass drums, snare drums, cymbals and percussion- in the concert, but there were no placements for percussionists.

Junior Lucas Schwanke has been in band for five years and was also very happy to be selected.

“I was really happy. I didn’t expect to get in it. When I found out I got in, it was a pretty exciting announcement because it was later at night when I found out by my band teacher’s email,” said Schwanke.

Schwanke played the bassoon and placed second in the concert.

The concert was a success for both McGarvey and Schwanke despite it being their first time attending.

Band teacher Christian Poole was very impressed with their performance.

“They did great. I was there the whole time as a chaperone with another group, so I actually watched them rehearse for every moment. They performed really well,” said Poole.
