The boys lacrosse team kicked off their season on Mar. 4 with a new coach.

After losing seniors last year, the lacrosse team is hoping to rebuild.

Senior Ben Wilson has seen the team transition a lot throughout the years.

“I definitely think losing all the classes above us feels different because they were bigger classes than our class,” said Wilson. “It’s definitely different having all the underclassmen play such big roles, but we haven’t had that in the past so it is new to me.”

First year head coach Tom Mayne has expectations for his players.

“I coach lacrosse the way I know it, and I get all the players to embrace the way I like it played, so we can make improvements as the season goes if we have to,” said Mayne.

Mayne coached lacrosse at Central York for about seven to eight years before coming to Susquehannock.

Wilson has played lacrosse for about 12 years and has goals for this year.

“My goals for this year is to have much fun as I can even if we lose and try to score as many points as I can for my team,” said Wilson.

Mayne talks about players that will contribute the most to the team.

“Our main goalie junior Connor Kernan will definitely be one of the main players to watch on defense, junior Daniel Clapp and Luke Ohmann, senior Ben Wilson- on the offense, on attack side- juniors Gavin Held and Allen Clapp, mid fielders- …juniors Alex Martuszewski and Matt Allen,” said Mayne.

Junior Gavin Held has a lot of confidence about having a winning record despite losing players from last year.

“I definitely think we can have a winning record and also think we will be able to make it to the County tournament and maybe even the District tournament,” said Held.

The boys lacrosse team has their first game on Mar. 22 at York Catholic.
