SPELLING BEE PARTICIPANTS ADVANCE

The top spellers from the SMS Spelling Bee took the Regional Central Pennsylvania Spelling Bee qualifier test on January 26, 2019. The students were Colin Brusse, Colin Baust-Crain, Bea Ricafort, and Matt O’Brien. They were vying for a spot in the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee. In order to qualify, they competed against about 150 other school champions from 10 surrounding counties. Only 34 students are able to advance to the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee.
I am pleased to announce that Colin Baust-Crain, Colin Brusse, Bea Ricafort, and Matt O’Brien have all earned a spot in the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee. These students will represent Southern Middle School at the televised spelling bee at WITF on February 23, 2019. The winner of the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee will move on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, DC!
