Dear 7th Grade Students and Parents/Guardians,
Southern Middle School is committed to fostering a learning environment where all students feel safe, welcomed, valued, celebrated, and respected. Southern York School District has partnered with York’s Jewish Community Center in order to to achieve this goal. On October 2 and October 3, 2018 Southern Middle School, with the assistance of the JCC Diversity Specialist, will host Reality Check. The JCC’s Reality Check program assists schools/students to:
- Break down walls of misunderstanding between groups of students to create safer schools
- Promote a positive sense of self-worth and respect
- Empower students to become diversity advocates
- Prepare students for life in a diverse society
- Support a positive school environment
- Foster empathy and change hearts
The Reality Check program brings about positive changes in awareness, attitudes, behavior, knowledge, and hearts. Reality Check aims to eliminate teasing, harassment, put-downs, rudeness, stereotypes, labels, discrimination, and even violence. We believe this will be a valuable experience for our students.
