“There are way too many fights,” “everyone is rude,” and “the rules are too strict.” These are some of the complaints anyone can hear in class or walking through the halls of Susquehannock. Yes, the school has had a couple disagreements in the halls over the years, and yes, students are expected to cover most of their body. But, realistically, there are rude people everywhere, every school has a dress code, and people get in fights. This school is not so bad.

In fact, people from other areas move here because of our school. If people think our school is strict and school in general isn’t teaching us what we need for the future, let us look at the facts:

  • Susquehannock’s average SAT score last year was 1541, compared to the overall PA score of 1473, according to the 2011 Community report.
  • 90 percent of students who took an AP test last year earned college credits from their score, meaning they scored a 3 or higher, according to the 2011 Community report.

In addition, Susquehannock is more diverse than we think. This year the school offers opportunities for everyone. If you aren’t the most athletic person but need a gym elective, one can take yoga. For those who want to explore their artistic side but are not the best at drawing, one can take a photography or sewing class. At a time when many schools are getting rid of sports teams and extracurricular clubs, Susquehannock is adding them, such as Best Buds. Not only is the school excelling academically, but the teachers also demonstrate they care by doing inspirational videos and partaking in activities. In most other schools, classes are easily 30 students, making it harder for students to individually work on content area questions with teachers. Many of the large classes that Susquehannock has have a main teacher and an aid. Because of the teachers, opportunities, and achievements of Susky everyone should be proud to walk in these halls.
