Preparing For The Spelling Bee and Geographic Bee

The Spelling and Geographic Bee are coming up soon.  Last year, Southern York County School District had three students represent SMS in the televised Regional Scripps Spelling Bee and they won numerous prizes. We have also had students compete at the State Geographic Bee Competition in the past who have done very well. We want to continue this level of excellence!

These Bees competitions alloware a great opportunity for your child to shine for either their geography skills or spelling and vocabulary skills. For each Bee there will be a classroom spelling bee qualifier quiz taken during social studies class in October. The school wide spelling bee will be held in November. The school wide Geographic Bee will be held in December.

The students can prepare for the Spelling Bee by studying the study list that is available. For the Geographic Bee, there is not a specific study sheet, but students are encouraged to download the Geo Bee Challenge App created by National Geographic to help them prepare.
