SMS Spelling Bee Results

January 26, 2018

There were four top spellers from the SMS Spelling Bee that attended the Regional Central Pennsylvania Spelling Bee qualifier test that was held on January 21, 2018. The students were Colin Brusse, Colin Baust-Crain, Ethan Wright, and Matt O’Brien. They were vying for a spot in the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee. In order to qualify, they competed against about 150 other school champions from 10 surrounding counties. Only 34 students are able to advance to the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee.

I am pleased to announce that Colin Baust-Crain, Colin Brusse, and Matt O’Brien have earned a spot in the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee. This is the second year in a row that out of all the schools competing Southern Middle School has had the highest number of students make it into the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee. These students will represent Southern Middle School at the televised spelling bee at WITF on February 24, 2018. The winner of the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee will move on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, DC!
