Susquehannock High School Alumni Association Announces John “Otts” Hufnagel Scholarship

The Susquehannock Alumni Association recently announced a scholarship in honor of John “Otts” Hufnagel who was a member of the Susquehannock High School class of 1974.

Hufnagel was Glen Rock’s resident historian until his death in December, 2016. He researched and wrote about the history of Glen Rock and was a founding member and former chairman of the Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society. In 2009, “Otts” served as chairman of the Glen Rock Sesquicentennial Committee, organizing and overseeing the events of the week long 150th anniversary celebration of Glen Rock.

Hugnagel authored several historical books, including ‘Glen Rock – Its Early Years and Its First Mill,’ ‘The 100th Anniversary of the Glen Rock Auditorium,’ and ‘The Glen Rock Theatre 1913-2012.’

Hufnagel retired in 2015 from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier with the Shrewsbury Post Office following 32 years of service. He was an active member of the White Rose Philatelic Society of York and helped to organize the York Stamp Collectors Show for many years. Hufnagel was also active in the former Glen Rock Jaycees and served as Chapter President, District Director, Regional Director, State Secretary, and State Vice President of the Pennsylvania Jaycees.
