Better, faster and stronger

Speed, strength, agility, and smarts; these are some traits that define a baseball player.

Although, obtaining such characteristics begins with training, even before pre-season.

The baseball team is in the process of a 16-week conditioning program before the spring sports season. Athletes with fall or winter sport obligations are able to join in the program when their season is over.

The players work out 3 days a week in the weight room. They stretch, work their arms and legs, and end with some conditioning all within an hour and a half.

Senior third-baseman Scott Hess describes the schedule more in depth.

“We pretty much begin work outs when school starts. It’s a 16-week program that has us 3 days a week; Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” said Hess. “We warm up for 15 minutes and hit the weight room. Afterwards, we condition for 20 minutes. The workouts really helps build stamina throughout the season.”

Junior catcher Colin Tattersall describes how the team looks as a result.

“We definitely are getting stronger and faster. Other teams are sitting around waiting for the season while we’re working and getting better. This is kind of a pre-pre-season. In February we have open gyms, tryouts, and a few weeks of practice before the regular season begins,” said Tattersall. “I’m banking on a good year, we have talent, we’re more mature and we’re going to hit the ground rolling.

The season begins on March 4. The team will run tryouts and then make cuts. The players on the baseball team are going to be stronger and have endurance this upcoming season.
