Penn State Punishment: Too Harsh

In 2011, PSU assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted of sex abuse toward children;this made me sick.

Hearing that Sandusky was getting thrown in jail for 30 to 60 years in the state penitentiary was a well deserved punishment for a heinous crime.
However, the NCAA ordered that beloved head coach Joe Paterno be fired. They also stripped the Nittany Lions of 111 wins, banned them from participating in the postseason for four years, cut 10 scholarships for each year, and finally fined the university $60 million.
I do understand the NCAA was trying to teach Penn State a lesson, but they also hurt the players, fans and students.
I’m glad that Sandusky was thrown in prison and the fine is not all that bad either, but stripping the team of all their wins under Coach Paterno and banning them from the postseason for four years is taking it way too far.
The college has already had enough between a 60 million dollar fine and the college’s reputation being destroyed by one rotten apple. Also, prior to the football season, some seniors left the team for other colleges, and players committed to Penn State changed their mind and high tailed it to other colleges.
Finally, Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett is filing a lawsuit against the NCAA for the punishment set on Pennsylvania State University. According to NBCnews.com, Gov. Corbett stated that what happened was a criminal matter and not a violation of NCAA rules and it was wrong for them to punish according to a rule violation.
Governor Corbett  should be supported in order to lift some of Penn State’s punishment, so it will be loved once again.
