Susquehannock High School senior Lucas Sherman recently won first place in the grade 9-12 division in the 2017 York Symphony Orchestra Song Writing Contest.

This was the third year Sherman entered the contest. His piece was entitled ‘The Adventures of Pepper the Cat’ and was recently performed by the York Symphony Orchestra during its Young Person’s Concert series.

Sherman entered the composition in early October and was surprised to receive notification that his entry won first place in the competition. “The contest was a great opportunity to create a premier piece, and it will help with my college portfolio,” Sherman said. After graduating from Susquehannock, Sherman plans to attend college and major in music composition.
