The Courier staff interviewed six random students to find out how much they know about this week’s current events.

When questioned about the October 31 terrorist attack in New York City, junior Shane Watson said, “Yesterday? I don’t know. Last attack I know about was Las Vegas, and I don’t even know if that was a terrorist attack or not.”

The  attack took place last Tuesday, October 31, when an ISIS supporter drove a truck through a crowded area in New York City.

While some students knew the answers to the questions, there were still some major events that people were oblivious to.

The Courier staff then asked students why they think that they are unaware of current news events.

Senior Synye Carter said, “I feel like the news only reports certain things that they think interests people, so depending on where you live and what’s going on at that time, they’ll tell you what you need to know.“

This shows that some students feel that they are not being given the information that they need; however, this should not be an issue as everyone should be able to find out what is going on in the world.

Other students have different reasons for not knowing important news.

Senior Jake Williams said, “I don’t really care; I have my own life to be living.”

This is somewhat surprising as people usually like to know what is going on around them.

Overall, it appears that while some students are fully aware of current events, others need to realize the importance of being informed.
