A bus load of Susquehannock High School students recently traveled to Topflight Corporation in Glen Rock, PA as part of the York County Economic Alliance’s (YCEA) ‘Manufacturing Days 2017’ work place visit.

“The purpose of ‘Manufacturing Days’ is to introduce students to the importance of manufacturing to our community and country,” said Susquehannock assistant principal James Sterner. “The event promotes local rewarding careers in manufacturing. It emphasizes the need for science, technology, engineering, and math skills which are essential in today’s manufacturing workplace,” Sterner said.

The tour gave students an opportunity to experience a real world workplace during a typical day. “We were able to talk to the people who are actually in the workplace environment every day,” said Susquehannock senior Emily Loehmer. “You usually don’t get this experience during a school day, so this is a good chance to actually see what the industry is all about,” Loehmer said.

The Topflight Corporation facility manufactures labels, shrink sleeves, conductive parts, and die-cut components which are used in products such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, electronics, cosmetics and personal care items, food and beverages, and tire and automotive products.
