Southern York County School District Seeking College Education Majors for Substitute Teaching

January 13, 2017

The Southern York County School District has announced, in conjunction with the Substitute Teacher Service, utilization of a program which allows students enrolled in an accredited Pennsylvania college or university who are currently pursuing teacher certification to substitute teach in the District.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently passed Act 86 which enables college students who are in their post 60 credits phase of their education coursework to be used as paid substitute teachers up to 20 days per school year.   The act allows prospective educators the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the classroom while helping to alleviate the shortage of substitute teachers.

Prospective education majors who are interested in substituting in Southern York County School District should contact the Substitute Teacher Service at (800) 357-SUBS or Southern York County School District’s human resources coordinator Tracey Kerr at (717) 235-4811, ext. 7205 for more information.
