So many babies!

Many of the teachers at Susky are either pregnant or have had a child this year.

English teacher Jennifer Mackensen is expecting her first child soon, a daughter.  She and her husband have picked the name Reila Isabella.

“We just wanted something very unique,” explained Mackensen. “Both of our names are very common.”

Steward Heikes of the math department named his son, born November 12, Chase Atherton; the middle name pays tribute to a street Heikes lived on at Penn State.  Heikes is one of several math teachers to have a child this year. Kori Eisenhart is expecting, and JC Lewis also just had a daughter, Emma Jane on November 20.

Some may think that a teacher’s career would be helpful in raising a child. Mackensen is unsure of this.

“Maybe in 15 years it’ll come in handy,” Mackensen predicted.

Heikes also pointed out that there are big differences between infants and teenagers.

“I don’t have to change any of your diapers,” Heikes   said to his students.
