2016’s Battle of the Buildings to Include Senior Students

By Dan McNair, Video Editor

Everyone can reminisce about Elementary school gym classes; students were more worried about playing a fun game with friends rather than running the mile. Each year, the Battle of the Buildings rekindles those fond memories by bringing students and faculty together to compete in miniature versions of gym class games.

At the competition, teams from Susquehannock High, Southern Middle, Shrewsbury Elementary, Friendship Elementary and Southern Elementary converge to find out which building has the most school spirit.

A new feature of the event this year includes a group of Susquehannock seniors who will be competing against their past and present teachers for the first time.

Each year brings new and exciting activities for the teams to compete in.

Senior Connor Hood is a member of the newly-formed student team.

“The student team is just gonna bring more energy than a bunch of teachers can,” boasted Hood.

“We have youth on our side and the staff isn’t gonna be able to handle the young blood. How are you gonna win with people like Mr. Lewis on the team?”

Clearly, teams are already showing their fiery, competitive spirit by poking fun at one another.

Battle of the Buildings is always an annual surprise for the athletes, who enter the competition unaware of what games are in store.

Senior team member Steve Rouse is feeling the hype of being on the student team.

“I’m excited they’re doing a student team for the first time,” said Rouse.

“Some of the players include myself, Maddie McGowan, Dan Stiffler, Michella Salvitti, Lily Yoakum, Joey McDonnell and a few others.”

High school principal Kevin Molin will be taking the reigns as referee for 2016’s iteration of Battle of the Buildings.
