Students were buzzing with excitement at Creative Writing Club’s first meeting.

It was  held  in English teacher Tim Groth’s room on Thursday, December 10th.

Freshman Camryn Brakmann looks forward to being a member in the club.

“It’s hard to find the time to write. I really want to join because it will give time to write that I don’t get outside of school,” said Brakmann.

The club meets twice a month on Mondays. The first session is based on exercise. The second is a workshop period where students share what they have written. The club meetings are 45 minutes long from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm. Upcoming meetings are Monday, December 2, January 11, and January 25.

There are officers who critique members’ writing and make sure that people are on task and positive. Students are excited to have other people to share their writing with. They aim to have officers chosen by the January 25.

Groth is happy to see action after a varied club history.

“The club started a couple of years ago I’d say; 2012. We ran it for a few years then interest kind of dried up. It didn’t run for about a year and a half, and now it has been brought back. This year I was approached by a group of 9th graders who were very impressed in having the creative writing club come back, so they have really taken the initiative in starting it again,” said Groth.

Groth also  would like the club to contribute to the Susquehannock Literary Magazine. At the meeting, students shared strategies to writing proficiently after Groth made it known that there will be much research.

Freshman Elizabeth Johns explains what their mission is as a group.

“If people can hear our stories and read what we have written, I think they’ll understand how much writing really does impact our lives,” said Johns.
