Bryant Claims King

Senior Caleb Bryant recently claimed the title of King of Heart for donating over $900. It started out with a simple box to collect cans, but his box quickly filled up. Bryant donated 285 cans and/or non-perishable items. Besides donating, he enjoyed making the box with his girlfriend Senior Jackie Ditt.

“Jackie helped me make the box. She was a lot of help,” said Bryant. “It was great just to be able to spend some quality time with her making something for a good cause.”

Bryant’s strategy was to take the cans in little by little and scattering them out to seem like there weren’t so many in his box.

“We put them in the back of my grandma’s truck,” said Bryant. “We waited to see how many people brought cans, then at the last minute we brought in the majority of them.”

Bryant couldn’t have done it without his grandparents’ help, and he looked up to them as an inspiration.

“They helped me because they knew it was going for a good cause,” said Bryant. “The majority of the donations came from them.”

No matter if he won or not, Bryant would have donated out of the kindness of his heart.

“It doesn’t matter if I won, I would have donated no matter what because it’s going to a cause for the less fortunate,” said Bryant.

This was Bryant’s first donation, and he is glad he made the choice to donate the amount he did.

“It’s my first donation, but it felt good to give to the hungry and needy,” said Bryant.

The pep rally was held Friday, February 13; Bryant and the rest of the King of Hearts candidates showed off their unique skills and watched others compete in events.

Bryant’s unique talent was that he could sing. He talked to the people that ran the pep rally and asked if he could sing to his grandma, janitor Jonie Krebs,   at the school.

“I was embarrassed, proud and shocked,” said Krebs.” It was his day not mine.”

Bryant sat patiently waiting to hear the announcement of who won the King of Hearts. After Bryant’s name was announced the crowd went wild and cheered him on. He wasn’t expecting the win, but he’s glad his hard work came to a positive outcome.

“Well, I’m glad that I won King of Hearts, but mostly, I’m glad that I donated what I did for the good cause,” said Bryant.

All donations went to Southern York County Services. Everyone that participated and raised cans has helped someone in some way.
