The Susquehannock Marching Band took home second place in their last and biggest competition of the year.

Marching band competed in the Liberty Division of the Cavalcade of Bands at Hersheypark Stadium on the evening of Saturday, November 8.

The competition, the last of the season for marching band, left band members feeling accomplished and proud of their many successes.

Sophomore Luke Brusse could not be happier with how the season turned out.

“[Our performances this year] were definitely better than last year,” said Brusse. “It’s like hanging out with friends and family.”

Junior Max Felts, a member of drumline, felt the same way.

“I feel like we did good [sic],” said Felts. “It was fun. It was a lot different because we hadn’t done anything like it before.”

The show this year is Dreamscapes, a narrative surrounding a girl’s journey through her own dreams. The show visits REM sleep, nightmares, and whimsical dreams before ending with the girl waking up in the morning.

Freshman Emma Day plays the girl in the dream.

“I feel like I performed well,” said Day. “Championships allowed us to get into a better mindset.”

In the performance, Day dances alongside the marching band members, helping tell a visual and audible story.

Susquehannock placed second in their division behind New Oxford, losing only by a fraction of a point. As this reporter has covered before, the marching band at the high school has been performing very well this season, easily dominating the majority of their competitions.

At the stadium, crowds gathered and packed in to see the band’s performance.

“[The experience] was amazing. We had incredible support,” said Day.

Susquehannock and New Oxford belong to the Liberty division, part of a classification system based on the number of members in a band.

The band has been practicing for their performance since August.

“We did very well. It was probably our best show of the entire season,” Brusse said of the band’s act.

Marching band is now over for the year, but next summer, the band will start marching again, preparing for another outstanding round of performances.
